Advance JEB Teacher's Diploma in Information Technology

This qualification is designed for those who want certification of their ability to deliver ICT programmes at an advanced level. Learners will be able to develop teaching and learning resources for an extensive range of advanced features and functions in currently used software packages. Additionally they will also be able to plan, prepare and deliver an applications software training course for JEB Diploma in Education Practice.

Entry Requirement:

Students are required to have JEB Diploma or equivalent standard. Candidates must be 20 years of age on the final assessment date. Teachers with H Dip Ed or B Ed are eligible for exemption from Education Principles and Practice (EPP).

Aims and Objective

At the end of the course of study learners will be able to:

  • develop teaching and learning resources for an extensive range of advanced features and functions in currently used software packages
  • plan and prepare applications software training courses at intermediate level
  • explore the use of ICT applications and associated matters as specialised tools and learning aids in an educational environment.
  • demonstrate practical competence in managing ICT hardware and resourcing a wide range of software in teaching situations and educational environments.

 

Target Group
The award is suitable for teachers who wish to teach ICT in a school, college or commercial training establishment at a post-introductory level.

 

Prior knowledge, skills and other requirements

    • Candidates must be at least 20 years of age on the final assessment date.
    • In order to claim this award candidates must have been registered with EDI for a minimum of 10 weeks.
    • Candidates must have sufficient proficiency in English to follow the course, complete assessment materials, take examinations and teach through the English language.
    • Candidates should hold a teaching qualification with a three year recency that is recognised by EDI or produce confirmation (by completion of an EDI form by the candidate’s employer) of having delivered a minimum of 40 hours ICT Training to individuals and groups of learners, within one year immediately prior to commencing this course
    • Candidates must also hold the former JEB Teacher Trainer Diploma or Certificate in Information Technology Skills with a three-year recency, or an equivalent qualification. Exemption from this requirement will be granted, at the discretion of the Board, to candidates who produce evidence of satisfactory knowledge/experience in teaching Information Technology to provide a reasonable basis for entry to this advanced course.

    Course Content

    Unit 1 Management of Communications and Software Environments in Education
    Unit 2 Teaching Applications Software at Level 2
    Unit 3 Teaching Specialised ICT Applications

     

    Applied Principles of ICT Education

    Those candidates who have not completed this as part of a JEB ICT Skills course will be required to complete the Teaching Project associated with Unit 3 of the JEB ICT Skills course and teach one or two sessions (totaling at least 2 hours of class-content time) which they have prepared as part of this project.
    Assessment
    Candidates are required to complete 3 assignments in each Unit, on the following topics:

     

    Unit 1

    • Managing the operating and environmental user interface
    • Computer communications
    • Integration and data transfer

     

    Unit 2

  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Word Processing

 

Unit 3

Candidate's choice of 3 from:

  • Diary and E-mail management systems
  • DeskTop Publishing
  • Imaging or Photo-editing software
  • Web-Page creation software
  • Accounting software
  • End-user programming languages (eg Visual Basic, HTML)

  • Assignment iii)

  • From each of Units 1 and 2 must be completed in controlled conditions, and will be set and marked by JEB. Candidates have to gain 60% of the marks for each assignment in order to pass.

Moderation and External Assessment
All centre-set assignments need to be assessed before the date of the JEB External Moderator's end of course visit to the centre. Once all externally marked assessments have been completed, they should be sent to JEB together with a student assessment form for each candidate.
