A+ Certification
In order to receive CompTIA A+ certification a candidate must pass two exams. The first exam is CompTIA
A+ Essentials. The CompTIA A+ Essentials Examination measures necessary competencies for an entry-level
IT professional with the equivalent knowledge of at least 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field.
Hands-on experience or equivalent knowledge includes installing, building, upgrading, repairing, configuring,
troubleshooting, optimizing, diagnosing, and performing preventive maintenance of basic personal computer
hardware and operating systems.

 

This unit is a comprehensive introduction to the principles of computer hardware and enable a learner to explore the technology used in a range of hardware systems as well as operating systems. The unit covers repair techniques, being able to maintain a system and how a learner may be employed as a systems support specialised. Working with different operating systems, apart from systems hardware, the learner will also explore networking systems, safe practices and systems security (and the related issues This unit will prepare learners to sit the CompTIA A+ Essentials certification exam, this unit is also assessed with BTEC merit and distinction criteria.

CompTIA A+ Certification: Essentials Exam 220-701:

CompTIA A+ Essentials Exam 220-701 validates knowledge of basic computer hardware and operating systems, covering skills such as installation, building, upgrading, repairing, configuring, troubleshooting, optimizing, diagnosing and preventive maintenance, with additional elements of security and soft skills. The CompTIA (A+) Certification Essentials Exam validates the basic skills needed by any entry-level service technician regardless of job environment.

Hardware: eg motherboard, processor, fan, case, power supply, optical drive, hard drive, solid-state memory,
keyboard, pointing device, display, network connection, memory, peripheral devices
Operating system: eg Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX, Linux (any variant)
Networking: eg addressing, proxy, domain name service, wireless, Bluetooth, cabled connection
Security: eg firewall, antivirus, spyware, updates, service packs, user access levels, supervisor password
System: a combination of hardware and operating system for any given purpose

 

CompTIA A+ Practical Application Exam 220-702:

The CompTIA A+ 220-702 exam measures key abilities for an entry-level IT professional with hands-on lab or field experience. This exam validates skills such as installing, configuring, upgrading, maintaining, troubleshooting PC workstations and SOHO networks. Examples of job roles include: Enterprise Technician, IT Administrator, Field Service Technician and PC Technician.
