JEB Teacher's Diploma in Information Technology

Northeast College provides 2 Training qualifications- JEB Teacher's Diploma in Information Technology and Advance JEB Teacher's Diploma in Information Technology. The IT teaching award is designed primarily for the individual who wishes to pursue a career as a teacher or trainer of Information Communication Technology Skills (ICT).

There is increasing pressure for teachers, trainee teachers and learning support staff to incorporate the latest technology into their role.
JEB Teachers diploma is not only for experienced teachers to validate their skill with a renowed training certification, but also an excellent course for anyone who wishes to start teaching IT. as well as providing advanced computer application training.

Entry Requirement:

Students are required to have ECDL or equivalent standard. Mature applicants with relevant work experience are eligible. Candidates must be 20 years of age on the final assessment date. Teachers with H Dip Ed or B Ed are eligible for exemption from Education Principles and Practice (EPP).

Aims and Objective

The award is aimed towards:

  • Teachers who wish to start teaching Information & Communications Technology (ICT) in a School, College or Commercial Training Management
  • Those who have completed, or are in the process of completing, a teacher training qualification and who wish to start teaching ICT.
  • Those who intend to teach, train or instruct others and want to gain prior knowledge and understanding of educational principles.
  • Those who are currently in a role as teacher, trainer, instructor or facilitator within an educational or commercial environment and who wish to achieve a qualification which confirms their understanding of teaching and learning principles and practice.

 

Course Structure
This programme will be delivered using a variety of teaching methods, resources and assessment methods.

 

Programme Content
EDI/JEB Level 3 Certificate in Education Principles and Practice (Formerly JEB Certificate in the Principles of Teaching and Training)

The EDI/JEB Certificate in Education Principles and Practice is designed to provide students who come from a non-teaching background with the skills necessary to effectively teach IT and computing skills.

  • Principles of Teaching: Learning Theories & Practice.
  • The Learning Process: Teaching Strategies and Theories, Method of Teaching & Managing Teaching and Learning.
  • Developing Own Practice: Evaluating and Developing Own Practice.

 

EDI/JEB Level 3 Certificate in Education Practice: ICT Skills (Formerly EDI/JEB Teacher Trainer Certificate in IT Skills)

The EDI/JEB Certificate in Education Practice: ICT Skills & Practical IT Skills is designed to provide skills in the following areas:

  • Managing the ICT Learning Environment: Teaching ICT Concepts & Managing ICT Learning Resources
  • Preparation of ICT Learning Resources: Devise Teaching Materials and Resources
  • Applied Principles of ICT Education: Teaching Project.

Students will also receive a further EDI/JEB Diploma in Education Practice: ICT Skills once they successfully pass the course within their two-year registration period.

 

Assessment
To be awarded the EDI/JEB Teachers Diploma in Information Technology, a student will be required to complete assessment throughout the year which consists of a variety of methods including:

  • Teaching Practices
  • Teaching Scheme of Work Project & 2 Lesson Plans
  • Assignments & Resources
  • Examination on Section 1 (Educational Principles & Practices)
  • ICT Case Study.

Students are required to prepare an extensive teaching project which will consist of:

  • A scheme of work for a course that will be 20 hours minimum
  • Lesson plans & teaching notes
  • Teaching materials/resources
  • Each student will be required to present a number of lectures to their group.
